Deleted Scene: The Language of Flowers

Updated: Oct 3, 2021

We promised you all some deleted scenes, and we're here to deliver. This one was removed from The Language of Flowers, chapter seven - Holly: Domestic Happiness.

When we get to the smallest bedroom, Zara notices it’s been set up for a little girl. “Is this for Angelica?” There’s a hint of accusation in her tone. “Yeah. I hope you don’t mind. I’m not planning on suing for custody or anything like that.” I don’t tell her I did it on the advice of Dave from my support group. He went through a custody battle with his ex-wife and that was one of the things which prevented him from getting full-time custody of his kids. He’s kind of bitter, but he knows the system, so I listened to his advice. “I just wanted it, just in case… just in case something happened. Or you needed a night to yourself for any reason.” She runs a hand over the Cinderella bedspread. “I wish you’d talked to me about it.” “I know.” My eyes focus on a spot above her head. “I just… didn’t want you to say no.” “But you didn’t give me the opportunity to say yes.” She’s right. The thought that she would say yes never even crossed my mind. I’ve always kind of operated on the philosophy that it was better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. It’s leftover baggage from dealing with my family. “Sorry,” I say. And I mean it. “I’ll try to do better.” “Don’t let it become a habit.”
