Book Review: The Reluctant Billionaire

Updated: Apr 4, 2021

The Reluctant Billionaire is the second book in the Island Escapes Series by Caitlyn Lynch – and it’s just as good as the first one. Plus, this is very much a romance series: you do not have to read previous books to understand later ones, though it can be nice to see familiar characters return.

But back to this book! It’s the story of Nessa, a bartender at the Sunfish Island Resort, and Jace, whose family happens to own the resort, and what happens when he’s ordered to take a break for the sake of his health. Naturally he ends up at the resort he owns – and meets a beautiful bartender who’s perfect for him.

And of course, because he doesn’t want to be treated as anyone special, he’s hiding that fact.

The “hiding you’re the boss” trope is not usually one of my favorites. But I do think it’s pulled off well here. Jace made it worth it, though. He’s a great guy who seems to have everything but really needs to figure himself out. And at Sunfish, he does. I really liked both the process and his realizations.

As for Nessa, well, she’s a character – in a good way. She’s utterly hilarious, and really, I just liked her. Both in her POV sections and in Jace’s.

With returning side characters and the wonderful resort, what more can you ask for?

Other than a happy ending – which this book provides.

All in all, it definitely gets

Five Stars
